EIFS Technology Earns Place in 2009 International Residential and Building Codes
Exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS) are taking a big step forward this year in the
U.S., having gained approval for inclusion in the 2009 International Building Code (IBC) and
International Residential Code (IRC).
“We’re obviously very happy and encouraged by what’s happened in the U.S. but will it influence
authorities in Canada to move any quicker to do the same here? No,” says John Garbin,
president of the EIFS Council of Canada.
Still, the wait in Canada shouldn’t be too much longer. Part One (materials) of three parts to
the Canadian EIFS standard has been submitted to a standing committee of the National
Building Code for approval and inclusion in the 2010 NBC. | full story

Executive Summary on Exterior Wall Cladding Performance Study
The EIFS Industry Members Association (EIMA). New landmark study provides for the first
time ample real-world data demonstrating that EIFS clad wall assemblies with drainage
(EIFS) outperform other typical U.S. exterior claddings of brick, stucco, and cementitious
fiberboard siding during most of the year. The results also demonstrate that EIFS is an excellent
choice for achieving key building performance goals in hot and humid climate, specifically
a mixed, coastal Zone 3 climate. www.eima.com/researchtesting/eimaexecutivesummary
